GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
San Lorenzo Valley easily won its first two SCCAL dual meets of the season when both Soquel and host Santa Cruz failed to field complete teams.
Cara Hoyt of SLV [2-0] covered the 2.2-mile course at UC Santa Cruz in 13 minutes, 49.2 seconds for the individual win. Kelsey Johnson [14:33.4] and Tanya Naranjo [14:42.7] of Santa Cruz [0-1-1] took second and third, respectively. SLV's Caitlin Taylor [15:40.4] and Annie Williams [15:41.3] rounded out the top five. Soquel [0-1-1] was led by Katie Heath [16:20.1], who took 10th.
- Aptos won meets over Harbor and Scotts Valley as the three teams met at the Mariners' home course in Nisene Marks.
The Mariners won 17-56 over Harbor and beat Scotts Valley, which had too few runners, by forfeit. Harbor also beat Scotts Valley by forfeit.
Marissa Ferrante was the top runner in the girls' meet, finishing the 5-kilometer race in 19 minutes, 13 seconds. Her Aptos teammate Amy Schnitger was second at 19:40. Haylee Childs was the top Scotts Valley runner, with a 23:23, and Christina Barrientos was the Pirates' best time with a 20:48.
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
Aptos beat Harbor 15-48 and beat Scotts Valley 15-64 at Nisene Marks. Harbor beat Scotts Valley 15-46.
Aptos' Rylan Hunt won the 5k race in 16:15, and the top five times were all from Aptos.
Cooper Kersey was the top Harbor runner, finishing in 17:35, while Michael Banco led the Falcons in 19:33.
- Chris Proffitt helped SLV [2-0] win its first SCCAL duel meets of the season with an individual win on the 2.2-mile course at UCSC. The Cougars topped host Santa Cruz 20-41 as Proffitt [11:11.7] held off the Cardinals' Brennan Lynch [11:21.1], and Cougars runners Allen Hetke, Alejandro Torres and Luke Luboff filled in the rest of the top five.
Soquel fielded just one runner — Jacob Boynton who took 18th [15:56.5] — to give Santa Cruz [1-1] a forfeit win and drop the Knights to 0-2.
