Regional Occupational Program (ROP)
OFF-CAMPUS CLASSES 2012-2013
Open to 11th and 12th graders. Students must provide their own transportation to off-campus classes.
Athletic Trainer @ Watsonville High: students will learn the skills necessary for athletic training, physical therapy and fitness instruction, basic anatomy, physiology and nutrition. One hour a week. One high school credit per semester.
Biotechnology@ Harbor High: a one-year laboratory course that introduces students to the field of biotechnology. The course emphasizes the theory, concepts and techniques used in biotech. The course integrates the disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics. Students are also introduced t the many careers available in the field. (UC A-G pending). * NEW COURSE!
Construction Technology @ Watsonville High: students will learn basic construction math, project organization, foundations and support structures, practices and procedures for standard wood framing, exterior wall and roof coverings, repairing and/or altering old and new structures and new technologies. Course is eligible for articulated Cabrillo College credit with a grade of “C” or better and recommendation from their ROP instructor; student needs to petition for Cabrillo 190CB Special Topics in Construction and Energy Management, 3 units of credit; final exam must be taken.
Cosmetology:Shoreline School of Cosmetology provides a great opportunity for career training in the areas of hair care, skin care, manicuring, and the theory relating to the Art and Science of Cosmetology. Seniors only; 10th, 11th, & 12ht grade students interested must attend a forum to have their name placed on the wait list. Forums are offered the second Friday of each month 3:30- 4:30 PM at the Shoreline School of Cosmetology, 1550 41st Avenue, Capitola, CA. 423-5806.
Culinary Arts @ AHS:This instructional program prepares students with food production, preparation, and service skills for employment in institutional, commercial, or independently owned food establishments or other food and hospitality industry occupations. Offered in the late afternoons once a week for 4 hours.
Engine Repair @ Watsonville High School:This basic course of the automotive technology stresses general diagnosis, engine removal and reinstallation, cylinder head and valve train diagnosis and repair, engine block diagnosis and repair, lubrication and cooling system diagnosis and repair.
Fire Science @ Watsonville Fire.This course is an overview of fire technology and includes information on fire fighting, hazardous materials, fire prevention and the organizations that provide that service. Various certifications will be offered including CPR, First Aid, and Incident Command.Students who pass Fire Science with “C” or better are eligible to petition FT- 1, Fire Protection Organization, 3 units of credit by exam at Cabrillo College.
First Responder @ Emergency Training Services: Forty-four hours of advanced first aid and CPR for healthcare providers. (Must contact ETS at 476-8813 for enrollment and then your counselor) Open to 16 years and older.
Metal Fabrication @ Watsonville High: course is designed to provide students with entry-level skills required in various metal working occupations. Areas to be covered include oxygen-acetylene gas welding, tungsten inert gas (TIG), arc and spot welding, drafting and blueprint reading, sheet metal processes, power tools and hot and cold metal fabrication. This course is articulated with Cabrillo College; students with a “C” or better + recommendation from their ROP teacher can receive 2 credits for Cabrillo course 150 Arc Welding. Students must take final exam and must petition for credit.
Sports Medicine @ Harbor High:students learn the skills necessary to work within the field of Sports Medicine, Athletic Training and health professions caring for physically active individuals. Focus in on functional anatomy, physiology, biomechanics and nutrition; the care and prevention of athletic injuries, therapeutic treatments and rehab exercises. Students will work as a student athletic trainer at his/her own school.
Vet Science @ Watsonville High School: Study of common health care of both small and large animals. Participation in the student operated domestic animal grooming shop offers essential safety training for handling animals while also providing skills needed for immediate employment opportunities in the animal care industry.Meets UC A-G “G” requirement.
