Site Council Minutes – 10.22.07

Welcome – Lisa Bishop called meeting to order at 7:05

Kate Connor elected as final parent member, not in attendance. Gene Burke (parent) attending as a guest.

Minutes for August and September approved .

Agenda Items :

Homecoming reflection: Positive feedback about homecoming assembly and halftime show.

PSAT date change: Staff error resulted in a date change for exam administration. Date change was necessary to ensure students would still be eligible for National Merit Scholarships.

PE Block grant update: Projected cost of PE equipment and staff development. Total amount for projected costs $20,252.95 in addition to amount already earmarked by PVUSD for coaching certifications. Council members had reservations about the first item (sound system w/ wireless headset) and requested more detailed information about how it would be used by the PE department. Motion to approve all other items on planned expenditures list was approved.

Mini-grants: Diane Burbank explained how to strategize when determining funding for the mini-grants. Note: “approved” indicates funding for full amount unless otherwise noted.

Performing Arts/Jazquire was funded by AHS Boosters and was removed from submitted proposal list.

Physical education/Text book proposal:

Concerns: How come not included with PE block grant, practical application of text not addressed, are all department members planning to participate, do they meet diverse learning styles, durability and other concerns were addressed. Motion made to deny funding pending more details. Recommendation suggested to have more info for next funding cycle.

Sam Edwards/Activities proposal: Approved.

Joe Manildi/Science proposal: Funded by other sources.

Cynthia Quigley/VPA proposal: approved.

English 6a proposal: approved

English 6b proposal: Diane Burbank explained why the PVUSD wouldn't fund this request for supplemental text. District does fund English text but not English novels. Approved.

English 7 proposal: approved.

Library proposals 8a: approved

Library proposals 8b: approved

Library proposals 8c: approved

Library proposals 8d: approved

Eileen Kitayama/Admin recycling proposal: approved for $400 for additional clear bag purchases.

Bob Goeckermann/Science proposal: approved.

Dan Lingenfelter/VPA proposal: approved.

Barrett Vitol/Social studies 12a: approved

Barrett Vitol/Social studies 12b: approved

Jake Russo/Manuel Rubi/Extracurricular-club: approved for $3187.50

Greg McBride/Science: approved

Construction Update: Diane reported on the progress of the cafeteria project.
