4010 French 1

Recommended Preparation: A genuine desire to learn French and a committed willingness to work.

A “B” or better in middle school/junior high English and math

or a “C” or better in high school English and math is recommended.

Grade Level: 9-12

The class is conducted following the State Standards, with emphasis on listening comprehension, speaking and writing for communication. Students talk about family and friends, time and weather, foods, recreation and sports, entertainment. They express preferences, ask questions, hold interviews, count, make comparisons, describe people and places. Students work alone, with a partner, and in groups. Audio activities are also used. Daily homework in the workbook is REQUIRED. Culturally authentic activities include French food, games, music, and other media.

4020 French 2

Recommended Preparation: French 1 with a "C" or better

Grade Level: 10-12

French 2 is an intermediate college preparatory course that focuses on integrating the skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing. Using language for communication is emphasized as well as cultural awareness of the French-speaking world. Instruction is primarily given in French. Completion of this course prepares students for French 3 and fulfills the graduation requirement.
