PSAT
The PSAT is Saturday, October 20. The purpose in taking the PSAT is that it provides excellent practice, the score report give specific suggestions on how to improve skills and, if taken as a junior, can qualify one as a National Merit Scholar which is a scholarship program. All college-bound Juniors should take the PSAT, and then pick up the test booklet in December from his or her counselor to determine strengths and weaknesses for future testing. Sign up to take the PSAT by October 7 in the main office on the AHS campus. The cost is $20.00.
The
recommendation is that students take the SAT 1 Reasoning Test, or the ACT +
Writing, one or two times in the spring of the Junior year. It may be taken
again in the fall of the Senior year. Colleges frown upon taking the SAT more
than 3 times.
The
SAT II should be taken as soon as a student completes a course in the subject
area in which he or she will take the exam. (Example: a student taking Biology
as a Freshman, should take the SAT II in Biology in May or June of Freshman
year. Students should take the SAT II Subject test that he or she will score
highest on, regardless of the major he or she plans to apply to.
Students
enrolled in AP Spanish classes should take the Spanish Listening Subject Test,
which is only offered in November.
