Grade Level: 9-12
Prerequisite: Instructor permission and concurrent enrollment in Concert Band.

Student is expected to enroll for the entire year. Offered to performers on trumpet, trombone, saxophone, bass, drums, guitar and piano. Students will study "big band jazz" literature in various styles including: swing, bop, funk, Latin, and rock. Students will learn improvisation through the study of jazz theory/harmony. This ensemble performs in concerts, jazz festivals, and community events. Students are given opportunities to audition for Honors groups. Students will be encouraged to perform in small combos. Arranging, composing, and solo work are also encouraged. Attendance at performances and rehearsals is required. May be repeated for credit. Material fee of $20.00 requested.
