Updated February 28th, 2008

When does construction end? The project is behind schedule, and the building will not be opened this school year. Originally, the completion date was November of 2007. The district has now negotiated a June 30, 2008 completion date, an added seven months.

How's the big building doing? Full power has been connected to the new building, the fire panel system has been connected, and inside work on sound, lighting, heating, finish work is commencing – all good news!

What's going on at the cafeteria? The cafetorium to cafeteria renovation is complete. We opened school without use of the cafeteria and are serving at the gym snackbar and the pool area kiosks. The new and improved cafeteria boasts remodeled bathrooms, reconfigured serving space, updated kitchen, built in storage for ASB classroom, new offices for athletic and activity directors, and increased student seating with new furniture. Oh, and new bathrooms on upper campus by the art building!

What's NOT included in the construction? Landscaping was cut from the project to retain pool and building size. Furniture and equipment such as entrance mats, training tables, refridgeration in the concession area, choir risers and grand piano will have to be added later through fundraising and community service.

What are we building? The completed new tennis courts, home stands and press box in the stadium, softball fields, and parking lot were all part of phase 1. The swimming pool and outside basketball court are complete and an early part of phase 2. The remainder of phase 2 includes:

  • new GYM that will seat the whole student body at one time (the current gym will be used for PE and practices)
  • new 450-seat THEATRE with fly, control room, costume storage
  • new DRAMA classroom
  • new WRESTLING/DANCE/PE classroom

What has been done? Improved road and traffic pattern in/out of campus, improved stadium bleachers and press box, new softball fields, new tennis courts, and new pool. The pool is 31.5 m x 25 yds x 12 ft deep with 500,000 gallons of water. What about the fake field? Great news! The new turf in the stadium field is complete and being used by football, soccer, PE, community. That money was privately raised – it is not part of the bond project dollars. It's not too late to contribute by purchasing a legacy brick for $250. Check the website www.aptoshs.net and click on “sports complex.”

Will parking ever change? We'll gain about 25 spots in the upper lot that are currently inside the construction fence.
