6050 Ceramics I
Recommended Preparation: None (However, Ceramics I is a yearlong class and students are unable to enter mid-year without prior teacher approval.)
Grade Level: 9-12
Ceramics 1 is a yearlong course. During first semester, Ceramics students learn how to work safely with clay, glazes, and studio equipment. Students learn basic hand building techniques and are introduced to wheel throwing. During second semester, students progress to sculpture and explore more complex techniques for surface decoration. Throughout the year, students will participate in studies of art appreciation and art history. A materials fee is requested.
*For students who would like to further their studies in clay, Ceramics 1 may be repeated once for credit.
