Dear Parents of the class of 2017, I am requesting your help with Grad Night 2016.  Tradition at AHS has been that the parents of the junior class team up to put on a safe and sober grad night for the senior class.  This allows senior parents to focus on the fun and particulars of getting their kids across the stage and preparing for the after graduation activities and life of their seniors.

For the past several years the AHS Grad Night has consisted of a trip that has been met with some dissatisfaction in that the trip was many hours away, it was expensive (and consequently was financially out of reach for many), and it required graduates to leave town so early that having a celebratory afternoon and/or dinner with their families was impossible.

This year the school is encouraging a shift away from these somewhat exclusive trips in favor of a stay-in-town, fun-filled celebration that will be more inclusive, less expensive and will allow graduates much more time with their families before their safe and sober fun-filled, all-night affair with their classmates.  Initial plans include an all-inclusive event with casino games with prizes, swimming, live music, dancing, games, food and more!  The AHS Boosters Club has a significant amount of funds to use for this event; we have a few experienced staff members who are on-board and ready to lend their experience and support.  All we need is some energetic parents with various skills to plan and execute the event.  There will be large and small roles needed.  First we need one or a few individuals who have the skills to lead, organize and deploy others – then we will need many others to help with creative expertise, supervision for the night and for other duties.

Due to the fact that the spring preceding graduation poses some of the busiest days and weeks the school staff will not (and have never) executed Grad Night – and we will not be able to this year.  This means that without parent volunteers there will be no Grad Night 2016.  And just think – you do a fantastic job as so many junior parents have done in the past and it keeps the tradition rolling for your kids next year!

There will be an announced parent meeting coming up very soon but interested and willing individuals should contact Principal O’Brien ASAP at 728-7832 ext. 5170.  Thank you in advance for making for a great, safe and sober night for the class of 2016!
