Weekly Content Connection (15 points)

Instructions

Each week you are required to create a weekly content connection in your notebook.   A weekly content connection is not a summary of the week’s lessons.  Your weekly content connection reflects your understanding of content we studied that week.

The requirements of a weekly content connection:

·         Create the weekly content connection on a left side of your notebook

·         Label the page “Weekly Content Connection”

·         Date the top of your page for the week: example,  August 20-24, 2007

·         Title your page; the title summarizes the topic of your connection

·         Demonstrate your understanding of some content from the week (for example, what did you learn, find surprising, feel inspired by, etc. and why?)

·         At least two paragraphs of written explanation that includes specific references to the week’s content  (10 points)

·         A visual that enhances your explanation: drawings, magazine photos, collage, etc.  Visuals must be in color (5 points)

Suggestions to start a weekly content connection:

·         Ask yourself these questions—

  1. What topic(s) did you find interesting, outrageous, or thought provoking?
  2. How would you explain what we studied to another student?
  3. What issues today are similar to the content idea from the week?

·         Set aside one day each week to complete your weekly content connection

·         When you find a topic interesting, reserve a left side with the topic at the top to remind yourself about your ideas

You may choose to begin your written paragraph for your weekly content connection this way (prompts):

·         I can’t believe…

·         I was surprised/confused/ saddened/happy to learn…

·         It is shocking that…

·         I noticed a similarity between today and                 when…

·         I had always thought…, but I learned…
