Weight Training for 2nd
year PE students. This class is open to Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors who
have successfully completed beginning PE. This class is a specific weight training class focusing on the development of muscular strength or muscular endurance. Students are expected to develop a weekly workout plan in which they will use to monitor, and achieve their fitness goals. I will use these weekly workout plans to check to see if the students are on task. Disruptive/ off task students will lose points when reminded to work out and follow their weekly plan. Student’s full cooperation and attention is necessary in all class activities to ensure safety and success in this class. Any disrespectful, off task, non-cooperative behavior will result in immediate disciplinary action; which includes loss of points, referral to consular, Saturday school, suspension from class and finally expulsion from class. Students are expected to agree to and follow all Physical Education Department policy and rules. By meeting the standards and expectations of Aptos High School, students will achieve greater self-esteem and confidence, a healthy and fit lifestyle, while enjoying a safe experience in their Physical Education class. Excellent students may be recognized by their teacher and rewarded with a free excellence in P.E. shirt. II MATERIALS REQUIRED 1. Dress Requirement: All students are expected to follow the Aptos High School dress code at all times. In Physical Education the required dress for class, (unless stated in advance by your teacher), consists of an Aptos Mariner P.E. shirt, navy blue shorts or navy blue sweat pants and non-marking and non-cleated athletic shoes and socks. Students must provide their own swimsuit and towel during a swimming activity. Team uniforms are not accepted as a substitute for any P.E. class. P.E. Shirt $8.00P.E. Shorts $8.00P.E. Sweat pants $20.00 2. Athletic equipment: All activity supplies and textbooks will be provided, unless otherwise mentioned by teacher. Students wishing to use their own athletic equipment may use it at their own risk and must first get the approval of their P.E. teacher. At times, Pencils and paper may be required. Students will also be expected to complete written as well as reading assignments in this class as a part of our schools Million Word Challenge. 3. P.E. Lockers: All
P.E. students will be assigned a locker to store their P.E. clothes. Lockers
are for use during P.E. class only. Combinations and lockers are not to be
shared. 4. One three ring
binder is needed as the students will put together a workout folder. III GOALS: -
Development of proper lifting technique and spotting
technique. -
Knowledge of how to use all exercise equipment
and for what muscle groups. - Knowledge of Muscular Strength training principles and Muscular Endurance training principles. - Development of weekly workout log. -
Knowledge of muscular anatomy. -
Documented strength improvement (max testing) -
One book report per year will be required to help
students achieve our school’s million word challenge goal, as well as to
deepen the students understanding of course content. The Jane Schaffer writing
forms will be used to complete book report assignment.
-Weight training- all
goals listed above will cover the Unit of Study -Cross country running –
On block days, students will run a specified course and will be graded on
their improvement of their running times.
1. Absences or excused non- participation: No points are given when a student doesn’t participate in class. Only excused non- participation can be made-up. Teachers will supervise and assign a date and time for their students make-up. It is up to the discretion of the teacher if the student must dress for a make-up. No make-up is required if there is an excused medical note signed by a Doctor. Some make-ups for missed days may be made up through written work or at home assignments. Students who fail to arrange make-ups within 2 weeks of missed classes lose all points of missed classes. 2. Extra Credit: Extra credit may be given at the discretion of the teacher. 3. Non-suit policy: Students are required to dress out for class everyday unless informed otherwise by their teacher. The proper attire shall consist of a gray Aptos P.E. shirt, navy blue shorts or navy blue sweat pants, with their first initial and last name printed with in the designated space on the logo, No other marking is allowed on their uniform. Shoes are required at all times, they are to be non-marking and non-cleated athletic shoes. There are no substitutes for this uniform such as athletic team uniforms or cheer uniforms. Students cannot make-up a non-suit and points will be lost. Failure to dress in the appropriate attire will result in disciplinary action by the teacher, and or school administrator. The disciplinary action steps are as follows: a. One non-suit per quarter may be excused from disciplinary action at the discretion of the instructor. b. The student may purchase or borrow clothing from the P.E. Dept. Borrowed clothing will take a student I.D. card and must be returned the same day c. Following the first non-suit, points will be lost and all non-suits there after may be followed by a detention with his or her teacher. The date and duration of the detention will be at the discretion of the instructor. d. If the student fails to report to detention as assigned, they may receive a referral to the discipline office. 4. Locker rooms: There will be a teacher in the locker room at the beginning and end of each period. Students are not allowed in the locker room with out the supervision of a teacher. Locker rooms will be locked during class. Only students dressing for class are allowed in the locker rooms. Showering is encouraged for all classes but only required before entering the swimming pool. 5. Supervision area: At
the end of class all students are to remain in the P.E. area behind the Blue
Mariner line until the passing well rings. Social skills are a
requirement in this class. By following the rules and meeting our
expectations students will achieve, greater self esteem and confidence, a
healthy and fit live style, a fun, friendly, and safe experience in their
Physical Education class. Classroom rules will be given in every area of
activities. Other infractions of the rules are: non-participation non-suits
leaving before passing bell unexcused tardy behavior dress code unexcused
absence, food, drinks, gum, spitting, social disrespect, disrespect for
