Or contact Clubz on online for a personal tutor (I heard they are good, but have no personal knowledge of them)

Make Up Tests:

Make up tests must be completed by within two weeks of the test date.

They can be scheduled for tutorial, before school, or after school.  I need to make sure I have the copy of the correct test ready for you.

Make Up Work (due within 1 week): (Labs are always expected to be made up ASAP – that is within ONE week)

Work can be made up in a number of ways at discretion of the instructor (taking into account the needs of the individual student and the needs of the course and instructor):

The work can be completed during tutorial, it can be excused (it wonÕt count for or against you), an alternative assignment can be done during tutorial, or the next assignment will count ÒdoubleÓ (e.g. if you get an 85% on the next assignment, your score will be 85% on the missed assignment).  These ways of making up work can also be used if you miss part of the instruction prior to the test or quiz and you request it prior to the next test (in the case of a quiz or test).

Tutoring:

I can be available both before school or after school almost every day.  Please make an appointment.

My Homework Policy:

I do not accept some assignments late.  I will for most labs, but not for most homework assignments.  The timing of the homework is critical.  If it is not done on time, it slows the whole class down.  I know this is frustrating at first to students, but it will help build responsibility for college.

Chemistry is the first class most students take where they really have to work hard to do well.

Chemistry will probably be the hardest class you take in high school (except AP classes).

It is very uncommon for students to just be able to show up and pass.  Chemistry is very abstract.  There are almost no questions that students would get right before entering the class and doing the work.  There are lots of worksheets and bookwork assignments that are practice.  Students often think ÒI get it; I donÕt have to do this.  It is just busy-work.Ó  They are usually wrong in this view.   Many students thank me later for giving them so much practice

About the ÒParticipating in Lab SafelyÓ Grade.  This assignment is to ensure that all students are safe and fully participate in lab.  This includes wearing proper protection (usually safety goggles) and not eating or drinking in lab.  Since there are often poisonous chemicals in class, I treat this as a very serious issue.  Eating is not allowed (except in very rare and controlled conditions and after a thorough cleaning of the lab).  I do allow water (and only water) to be drunk at their seats.  Every student starts with an A+ in this and will lose points for each violation of these well defined and often repeated rules.  This assignment also includes lab participation.  If I have to repeatedly ask a student to return to their group or to work on the lab, I will take points away here.
